The Talisman

The name Talisman comes from a ship called Talisman, which crashed in near by Sudureyri on March 24th, 1922. Marine accidents through the ages have been numerous in Iceland, but the story of the 4 out of 16 men who survived the accident will always be an amazing example of the endurance challenges of fishermen. After the thrashing storm destroyed the ship, the 4 survivors washed ashore, and then had to make their way through snow, ice and sharp rocks to safety in next village Flateyri.

Message from the kitchen

Talisman Restaurant specializes in dishes using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The theme of the hotel and restaurant are inspired by the magnificent scenery of the West Fjords, as well as the ancient Icelandic food traditions related to the rich fishing grounds. The design of the dishes at the restaurant was handcrafted by local villager Ólöfu Oddsóttur, the cod lamps are created by Dögg Guðmundsdóttur, and the menus are bound in skin from spotted catfish.
